As parents, you’re the most influential teacher for your kids. You must introduce your kid to books and reading.

Below we’ve got some tips to assist you teach your kid to read.

How To  improve reading skills for children

Tip #1

Teach your kid alphabet letters and sounds at the  same time. Studies have shown that kids learn best once they are taught  letters of alphabet  and letter sounds all at once. In one study, fifty eight preschool kids were assigned to receive directions in letter names and sounds, letter sound solely, or numbers (control group).

The results of this study have shown that  kids receiving letter name and sound instruction were possibly to be told the sounds of letters whose names enclosed cues to their sounds. [1]

When teaching your child  the letter sounds, have them slowly trace the letter and repeat the sound of the letter at the same time. For instance, if you were teaching  the letter “A”, you’d say:

“The letter A makes the /A/ (ah) sound.”

Then have your little one say the /A/ sound whereas tracing the letter together with his or her finger.

Tip #2

When teaching your child to read , always  tell  them that the correct  reading order must be  from left to right, and top to bottom. To adults, this might appear as  basics that anyone must know.

However, our youngsters don’t seem to be born with the information that written text ought to be read from left to right and top to bottom, and this is often why you will typically see kids reading from right to left.

Tip #3

Teach final consonant blends initially. Teaching words such as  “at” and “and” will lead your kid on to learning words that rhyme with these. For instance, for “at”, you’ll be able to have:

Lat
Pat
Mat
Cat
Sat
Bat
Spat
Chat

For “and”, you’ll be able to have these riming words:

Sand
Band
Land
Hand
Stand
Bland
Brand
Grand
and so on…

You can begin teaching blends once your kid has learned the sounds of some consonants and short vowel sounds. You do not have to wait till your kid has perfect the sounds of all the letters before teaching blends.

Learning to read may be a long process, however it does not have to be very complicated. Plan this  into precise and logical steps. A baby as young as 2 years old will learn to read  and older kids will accomplish even a lot more.
